Measurement guide

What HairMetrix measures, and why MOHR starts with imaging

Guesswork is expensive. HairMetrix gives an objective baseline of density and hair caliber so candidacy and progress are grounded in numbers, not bathroom lighting.

The short answer

  • Where it happens: During the in-person MOHR Hair Assessment ($299, credited) at 910 Park Avenue.
  • What it measures: Metrics such as hair density, shaft thickness, and terminal-to-vellus ratio, alongside clinical photos.
  • Why it matters: Supports candidacy decisions and later comparison; does not by itself diagnose every cause of hair loss.

What is HairMetrix?

HairMetrix is an AI-assisted scalp imaging system used in clinic to capture standardized views and objective measurements of hair and scalp characteristics.

At MOHR, it is part of the paid assessment, not a substitute for clinical judgment. A licensed provider reviews history, examines the scalp, and interprets imaging in context under the medical oversight of Dr. Alexander Golberg.

What gets measured

  • Density: how many hairs occupy a defined area.
  • Shaft thickness / caliber: helpful when people report “finer” hair before obvious bald spots.
  • Terminal-to-vellus ratio: a window into miniaturization patterns common in androgenetic alopecia.

Exact outputs can vary by device protocol and mapping. The point is a repeatable baseline, not a single magic score.

Why measurement before treatment

MOHR’s philosophy is measure first, then treat. Without a baseline, it is hard to know whether a program is helping or whether expectations were unrealistic. Imaging also helps explain when non-surgical care is unlikely to meet a coverage goal, and when a transplant conversation may be more honest. See non-surgical vs transplant.

Frequently asked questions

Is HairMetrix painful?

No. Imaging at the assessment involves no needles and no downtime.

Does imaging guarantee I will be a candidate?

No. Candidacy depends on follicles, diagnosis, health history, and goals, not a single image score.
